Are we fat?

According to many, unless women are thin or have giant breasts and tiny tiny bodies and of course completely firm buns - we are not looking great. In fact we hope to become some sort of human Barbie and become very upset when our own body types are not the same as a 12 year old.

I wonder if we are fat or overweight or if all this hype about normal women just makes it easier to sell magazines, newspapers, diet pills and a whole other spectrum of things out there that we don’t really need- just so that we can confirm to what a certain segment of society is advocating.  I am not encouraging anyone to be overweight but just to see how much we care about the ideal body image.

You probably have seen the infamous pictures of Jennifer Love Hewitt in her bikini and the comments about how “fat” or not great she looked. It’s not a first, many other stars have been criticized for being too fat - occasionally too skinny, but not as often. Tyra Banks was the target of the same kind of issue when some unflattering pictures of her in a bikini showed up all over magazines and the internet.

Weight such a big issue for women - really it is. If a woman is overweight and unhealthy than of course trying to establish healthy eating habits and exercise is crucial.

But if we are OK - we may buy into the ideal of being skinny because it seems that it gives some sort of status or apparent control over a chaotic life. But if someone is healthy and not a size two is it worth the obsession?
