Is there such a thing? Do you have a favorite one size fits all gift you tend to give to your military spouse girlfriends? I thought Id start us on a list of our favorite things to give.
Here are mine….I hope you’ll add to the list:
1. Guest Book for the Bathroom - I love this idea….lots of different messages left by friends and it travels with you from duty station to duty station.
2. Starbucks gift card - It’s so great to go through the drive-thru and not have to worry about cash and change.
3. Note Cards - The hand written note is just so awesome to give and receive.
4. Stationary - To be used for love notes, “regular” letters, thank you notes…etc.
5. Picture Frame - Who doesn’t love to display treasured photos?
6. Her favorite bath/body product or fragrance - I’m a philosophy girl myself.
7. Babysit her kids for an hour or two - Possibly the best gift on the planet.

Great gift ideas Wendy! I think I’ve received a few things on this list from you!! ;o) Thanks to you, I am spreading the love of Philosophy!! I just try to listen to what my girlfriends say that they absolutely love and write it down. There is nothing better than giving a gift small or large and seeing the look on their face like, “how did you know!?” b/c they forgot that they ever said anything. I keep a small note book with me and jot down things like this over time. Finding it when a holiday comes up is another story! lol
Wendy, I LOVE the idea of a guest book for the bathroom!! I’m going to put one there for my next party. Fabulous idea.
Fabulous list! I wholeheartedly agree with you about notecards. Nothing is so sweet and simple as a handwritten note. I love to give and receive notecards as gifts too.
I like stuff that really personal so I enlist my son as a slave and have him draw pictures of what it means to be a soldier…gosh people just LOVE them.
I did that for my husband’s graduation present, except everyone in my son’s preschool drew a picture and we mounted them in a scrap book. Oh, it melted his heart!
For the newlyweds in our life, we usually send an interesting cookbook and something unique to where we live, like a spice blend or meat rub made for something the locals eat that you can’t find anywhere else. We hardly ever live in the same state they do, so this is kind of a fun way to share a little of our homeport with them.
Wendy, Cute Ideas! I am also a Philosophy girl! I also think picture frames make great gifts. I agree with what “Marie” said about listening to the things they say they like then taking note of it. There is nothing more special than a very intuitive friend! I like to make little gift baskets. Depending on the situation. Say, for a baby shower, I know it is all about the baby but sometimes I think people forget about the person carrying the baby around for nine months. Not only that then they have to be kept up all hours…well, you get the point. I like to make a little pamper basket up for the mom. With bath items, lotions or a Spa gift certificate for a manicure or something small!
Great post! I too am a huge fan of Philosophy and will also be stealing the bathroom guest book idea. I’ll have to get back to you if I think of what I like to give!
The guest book idea came when I signed one almost 18+ years ago. I’ve always thought it was one of the most interesting and personal things to read while in the loo.
These are all great ideas….remembering a persons favorites, local flavors, hand draw pictures, oh and the idea of remembering the new mom!
Cristin! So nice to see you back online….can’t wait to read about your new adventures stateside with baby!
Another Philosophy fan!
I love the guestbook idea…I’d never heard of one in the bathroom!
One I love to give to those I KNOW will use it (some are uncomfortable) is a massage gift certificate.
I do alot of baked “goody boxes” too. Sometimes nothin’ says “Love you sug” like brownies and cookies and fudge!
So, forgive me for asking because I actually do like the idea of the guest book, but the first thing it makes me think of is that it’s unsanitary. Am I not understanding something? Or…I am so transfixed on keeping my house free of germs because of Rory’s heart that’s it’s becoming an issue… lol…
Some great military related gift ideas at this website - http://www.ptgiftco.com - that can be personalized with with names/ranks/personal messages. I got USAF garden stake for my friend (leaving for Iraq next month) and they loved it.
