For My Valentine

Ok. So, we all know how much I don’t like Over-Commercialized-Sugar-Induced…oh, wait, I mean…Valentine’s Day. Yeessshh….I don’t like romantic movies, I don’t eat chocolate and goofy stuffed animals make me nauseous. But, alas, it IS the day my husband proposed to me–on a rainy pier at Rudee’s Inlet in Virginia Beach many moons ago- -a day my mother refers to as “the day the heavens wept.”

My husband is one of the last of the good ones. He’s a fantastic father—very hands-on, he’s a wood-worker, a golfer and looks like he walked out of the volleyball scene of Top Gun (to steal a description from an old friend). He really has the body of Slider…but, I digress. The point is, I’m lucky. Very lucky and I count my blessings every day I wake up.

The truth is life would be different for me without him. He challenges me, makes me a better person and supports me in all that I do. He’s given me the greatest gifts I could ever ask for—our three boys. Our marriage has grown into something that could not ever be described or outlined in a Hallmark (sorry, Hallmark) card. It’s just so much better than that…there are no chocolate hearts, balloons or sweet tart candies to fully illustrate how much I love and appreciate him.

So, I’ll tell him, and you, my friends, here:

Simply, marrying my husband was the best decision I ever made. Thank you, David, for making our life so much more than I ever could have envisioned that rainy Valentine’s Day in 1997 when I said, “Yes.” Just this ONE day of the year, I will quit groaning at romantic movie scenes, appreciate the love in the world and thank God that you are mine.

What a sweet story. Happy anniversary, of sorts, to you both.

My hubby asked me to marry him on Valentine’s Day, too. Cool. ;)

WOW! That actually brought tears to my eyes.. and I’m not much for mushy stuff, either.

I liked this post. I had stopped regularly visiting this blog because it seemed that more often than not, authors bitched about their husbands and deployments more than they showed respect to them and what they do. I understand it is a place of venting, but it gets hard to read post after post of negativity. This was a breath of fresh air. Thanks! We all know that military life is hard, but life IS what we make of it, and if we look around, it’s a pretty good life after all.

Would you be able to take part in this? We’re preparing to send some inspiration overseas to our troops to tell them we’re all thinking of them back home. Please visit our blog http://www.kindnotes.wordpress.com and spread the word.
