A MilSpouse Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day was this past Thursday and on a day full of romance and showing your Valentine how much you love them, how does a military spouse celebrate the “holiday” alone?

I thought I’d share how I spent my day. When I arrived home I was happy to find the Fed Ex man left me a package from flowerbud.com, however I would have much preferred if they were delivered by the sender himself.

I recently met another milspouse whose husband is on IA like mine (the only one I happen to know) and we made plans for dinner and some retail therapy. We met for dinner at Chili’s and I had Fajitas while my son had their “famous” baby back ribs. It was a great distraction and I didn’t mind all the “couples” who were out. We then headed over to the mall and made the circle to some favorite stores. I don’t normally visit the mall, so for me this was a treat. I had recently sent the husband a tube of my new favorite thing (body butter by Bliss), so I needed a replacement. We also visited Ann Taylor (who is having an amazing sale if you need anything), and I found a replacement to my cable knit wool/cashmere scarf that my dog ate.

It was great evening, we laughed, joked and vented. We both mentioned how we seemed to “talk a lot” since our husbands were not home to hear all about our day, life, etc. ha! I wasn’t going to head out on a “school night”, it would have been easy to curl up on the couch, but in the end I’m so glad I did. It was fun and a much needed distraction.

So a big belated Valentines Day hug to you if your spouse is deployed. My appreciation for your sacrifice and prayers are with you today and until their safe return.

Valentine’s Heart for the Troops
