That’s how cold it’s supposed to be tonight up here in the northern half of the country. Tomorrow, we’re supposed to see temps anywhere from a high in the teens, to lows of minus 24 degrees, with the wind chill factored in. My coworkers have all gleefully informed me that this has been the coldest, snowiest winter here in Lincoln for at least the past five years. I am so glad that I moved back just in time to experience it. {/sarcasm}
Last weekend while cleaning out our ice skating rink pond filter, I had to throw four fishcicles in the garbage. Poor frozen fishies. The previous owners of our house said they had never lost a fish in the five years since installing the pond. No pressure.
Now I’m a fish-killer.
Zero is so cold that my Scottie Dog, Angus, looks at me when I open the cover of the doggie door for him to go outside to potty with his “Whatchoo talkin’ ’bout Willis???” expression. I know he’s mentally trying to weigh the plusses and minuses of going outside, and possibly getting stuck to a metal object while he relieves himself, versus how much of a spanking he will get if he sneaks a pee on one of the Iraqi rugs Matt brought back from this last deployment.
On the positive side; one of the garden stores I drive by occasionally has a sign up that says “Only 28 more days until Spring!”
I will be counting those days down each night as I heat up the milk for hot chocolate, and haul around my port-o-radiator wherever I go in our house.
Come on SPRING!

I FEEL your PAIN!!! I’m SO ready for Spring. I’m from Texas (Gulf Coast) and now we’re in Germany. Over four months of jacket wearing and teeth chattering cold. I’m about DONE!
That is freezin’ I remember as a kid it being so cold outside that our car door locks froze up. It was so freezing that when he poured boiling water on then in an attempt to unfreeze them. The boiling water froze. I am pretty sure the weather was below zero then too! Before you know it the birds will be building their nests and green will be sprouting up everywhere! Not too much longer to go!
Burr! Here’s to some hot chocolate!
