Headed to Maine

It’s been awhile. I miss “talking” to all of you. As many of you know, my family is about to move to Maine, and we are in the middle of transition hell. The movers come on Wednesday.

While I always think packing up all our belongings will be a terrible thing, now I remember that when you are here, in this moment, with all this chaos, the movers can’t come fast enough. I’m ready to get everything on the truck. Then I can load up the family and know that the only things that really matter (which aren’t “things” at all) are in our car, not on the truck. There is sanity in that.

I have some good news, too. In August, a book of my columns titled “I’m Just Saying” will be released. I have always wanted to publish my columns in a collection, and I am so glad that it is finally happening. Stay tuned for more details.

I don’t know what the next few weeks hold for me — whether I will have consistent Internet access or not — but I will pop in when I can with tales from the road.

One random side note before I sign off: Big high fives to MSM for the awesome covers! They just get better and better, Babette! As always, I am so humbled and honored to be among so many talented writers, spouses, artists and business people. Keep the great issues coming!

Until I can sign on again…..

Just reading your column, I realized you’re moving to Maine. What news! I’m going to assume that more than likely (well, let’s hope anyway), that you’ll be moving to the Brunswick area as the Brunswick Naval Air Station is there. The Mid-coast area of Maine is a wonderful place and I certainly hope you’ll come to like living here. Well, let’s hope so - once you’ve finished moving and all. And perhaps, you can stop by The Times Record in Brunswick. I understand that our Managing Editor, Jim McCarthy was helpful to you in getting started with your book. Best wishes and good luck in your move and future endeavors in Maine.

Welcome to Maine! Coming to B.N.A.S.?? (base closing in 2011) :-(
As a Navy wife (now retired) we were informed of “orders” while my husband was on temp. duty overseas…. (The choices had been: stay in VA, go to DC area, …or retire…) Then, he got a msg. and hubby called me to ask, “How’d ya like to go to Maine??!! - then get the house ready to put on the market! ”

You’ll love it up here - great schools, lots of community activities, sports for the kids, …. we loved it so much we decided to retire up here!
    Welcome aboard!

Good luck, Sarah, and don’t forget to call when you get to my neck of the woods. Have toys = will play!

The cover credit is Teddy’s. He’s the creative mojo magician. But, my personal favorite cover was Sept/Oct 2007. :)

I am originally from the Western Foothills of Maine (bordered on northern side by White Mountains, west by the NH border and containing hundreds of lakes and ponds). If you are an active family, you are going to love the variety of outdoor environments and activities that will be offered within 3 hours of you. If you run, check out the Peaks Island 5 mile road race http://www.mainetrackclub.com/peaksinfo.html for a lobster bake post-run in late july, or the maine lobster festival 10K in early august. Good luck.
