…I am an adult. Grown up. Mature. Responsible. If anything can make you feel like this, it’s the holidays. Here’s my proof:
1. On Christmas morning I woke up at 8 am, checked the clock and thought “Thank God no one here is under the age of 20 – I can go back to sleep for another hour!”
2. While discussing my husband’s career with his family, I immediately crossed West Coast bases off our list. As much as I love San Diego, we’d be too far away from the grandparents.
3. I turned down both cookies and pie, knowing I would feel better if I just ate an apple.
4. All my thank you notes were written and sent before I used a single present or gift card.
And to top all that off, here’s the conversation I had with my husband about our New Year’s Eve plans:
Him: So what do you want to do for New Year’s this year? It’ll be our last one without kids so we should do something special.
Me: Well, we could get tickets to one of the parties at the casino, or I could call (our one set of civilian friends) Chuck and Jan and see if they’re having a party, or we could invite everyone from the boat over and throw our own party.
Him: Or…we could stay home and watch Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and drink hot chocolate.
Me: Thank you. I’m way too old for this holiday.
I hope everyone’s enjoying a safe and healthy holiday so far and that the new year brings your family nothing but joy!

That’s too funny! My husband and I had the same conversation this year. Our kids had a sleepover and we, being the party animals that were are, painted a room and watched “Dark Night”. Happy New Year!
